IGCSE (Key Stage 4)

In Years 10 and 11 students follow courses leading to the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) examinations set by the Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) and Edexcel Boards in the UK. Most students take IGCSE examinations in nine subjects. Mathematics, English Language and at least one Science subject are compulsory. We also expect students to take at least one Humanities subject and a Modern Foreign Language. The subject choices within this framework are flexible, and the individual needs of students are taken into account

Information sheets about each subject offered at IGCSE level are contained in the IGCSE Choices Booklet. Each subject outline includes a brief description of course content and the examination format.

SMT - Head Key Stage 4

Key Stage 4 comprises Year 10 and Year 11 and consists of a two-year programme of study – the International General Certificate of Secondary Education -IGCSE.  The journey from the beginning of Year 10 through to the end of Year 11 is one which should be both challenging and enjoyable. For the students to reach their potential, we offer a strong network of pastoral support which works alongside the academic areas. Our aim is for students to progress into the Upper School as self-assured young adults with a confidence derived from their success in their academic subjects as well as the independence they have developed in managing their time and being able to recognise their strengths and weaknesses. Co-curricular activities is an integral part of the KS4 program.

At the end of the programme, students will be awarded a grade in each of the subjects they study over their two years in KS4.  A second certificate (ICE Award) is awarded to students with a given subject combination that meets the CIE Board’s criteria.
Controlled Coursework is an integral part of some subjects and can contribute as much as 40 percent towards the final grade.
IGCSEs are world recognised qualifications and our results are comparable with the very best schools in the United Kingdom.
We offer an array of eighteen subjects including Languages, Sciences, Social Sciences and Creative Arts. Students are encouraged to take at least one Humanities subject and a Modern Foreign Language. The subject choices within this framework are flexible, and the individual needs of students are taken into account as far as possible.
NB: The following subjects are compulsory for Year 10/11:
English Language
Mathematics
